6.Pack a Moving Day Essentials Bag
This is the one bag that doesn’t go on the truck. Pack it the night before with: phone charger, medications, a change of clothes, toiletries, keys to the new place, important documents, snacks, and cash or card for tips. You’ll thank yourself when everything else is in boxes.
Write the destination room on every box — Kitchen, Master Bedroom, Bathroom, etc. Add a short note for fragile items. This lets the movers place boxes directly in the right room, saving you from having to move them yourself after the truck leaves. Color-coded labels work even better if you have kids helping.
At least 24 hours before moving day: unplug and defrost the refrigerator, disconnect the washing machine (drain the hose), and unplug all electronics. Appliances that aren’t properly prepared can leak, get damaged in transit, or slow down the movers significantly.
Once everything is loaded, walk through every room — including closets, cabinets, the garage, and outdoor areas. Check that nothing was left behind, all windows are closed, and utilities are set to be transferred or shut off. It takes 5 minutes and prevents a trip back across Miami.
